Voice actor Daisuke Hirakawa will play Liu in Revenger

Daisuke Hirakwa plays Liu while Nobuhiko Okamoto is voicing Saimon Shishido

If you are a fan of Japanese voice actor Daisuke Hirakawa, 2023 is turning out to be a good year for you.

After all, not only is he starring in the still airing Eternal Boys as the adorable Kentarou Sanada, as well as playing Rufus in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War, and Plenance in By the Grace of the Gods 2, it has just been announced Daisuke Hirakawa is joining the cast of Revenger.

Along with the addition of Daisuke Hirakawa to the Revenger cast, the official Revenger Twitter account announced Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki in My Hero Academia) is also joining the cast.

He will play Saimon Shishido, while Hirakawa is cast as Liu.

Saimon Shishido is a an executive of the Nagasaki Kaisho, the organization that oversees trade in Nagasaki, while Liu is called “an important person in Tojingai, who is also an exceptional master of Chinese martial arts.”

What is the Revenger anime?

Revenger is an original anime that takes place in feudal Japan, and follows master assassin Usui Yuen as he brings together a band of professional assassins to exact revenge on those who demand it.

The demand has to accompany a bitten gold token, which serves as payment for the assassination.

The group of assassins take in samurai Raizo Kurima after he is tricked into murdering his own fiancée’s father. Believing Raizo is also dead, his fiancée commits suicide.

With nowhere else to go, and revenge on his mind, Raizo joins the Revengers.

A group that includes former pirate and now-doctor Teppa Murakami who is also an incredible bowsman, Nio a small boy who kills with unusual weapons, gambler Soji who murders his victims with playing cards, and the aforementioned Yuen Usui, who is also a master lacquerware artist by day, and who kills with a piece of gold lacquer paper slapped onto his target’s face, thus cutting off their ability to breathe.

Together, the five men are able to get access to and kill just about anyone who has a price on their head.

The anime is currently streaming via Crunchyroll and, if you enjoy a good historical drama with interesting characters, a good plot, and enough violence to make it interesting, this one is excellent.
