The hit anime series Kaiju No. 8 ended its first season at the end of June this year with a confirmation a sequel was in the works.
That sequel has now been confirmed to be Kaiju No. 8, Season 2, with a premiere date of sometime in 2025.
Something that was stated across all Toho Animation’s social media channels today, along with an announcement video that includes scenes of some of the kaiju that appeared in Season 1. (watch below)
The Kaiju No. 8 anime adaptation is based on the smash-hit manga written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto.
VIZ Media is publishing the manga series in English, with 10 volumes out so far and Volume 11 due in October.
The publisher describes the plot in this way:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles.
When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
Shigeyuki Miya (Onihei) directed the first season of the anime, with Ichiro Okouchi (Devilman Crybaby) in charge of series composition/scripts, and Tetsuya Nishio (Vampire in the Garden) acting as both chief animation director and character designer.
