Upcoming Touken Ranbu Kai Kyoden prequel film Touken Ranbu Kai: Douden Chikashi Haberau Monora is due out in Japan on August 16th.
This weekend, it received a new trailer and a gorgeous key visual featuring seven of the anime’s main “swords” — Mikazuki Munechika, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, Heshikiri Hasebe, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Ookurikara and Doudanuki Masakuni. (see below)
The film itself comprises a completely new story that takes place prior to the events of the recently ended Touken Ranbu Kai Kyoden anime series.
It hits Japanese movie theaters mid-August, and will run for three weeks.
There is no word yet on when or where the Touken Ranbu Kai: Douden Chikashi Haberau Monora film will stream in the west.
But, my guess is it will eventually be available on Crunchyroll, as that is where the original Touken Ranbu Kai: Kyoden anime is currently streaming.
The film is being directed by Touken Ranbu Kai Kyoden director Kazuya Ichikawa, with Kenichi Seumitsu (Delico’s Nursery) in charge of the screenplay, and Mari Takada (Touken Ranbu Kai: Kyoden) designing the characters.
Studio domerica is in charge of anime production.

If you are a fan of the anthropomorphic samurai anime franchise already, you will recognize many of your favorite swords appearing in it.
