The comedy horror anime series A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School (aka Youkai Gakkou no Sensei Hajimemashita!) was announced in December last year, and now it has a premiere date — October, 2024.
The release date came out via the anime’s official X account earlier today, along with a funny key visual promoting the new series, and the production staff and voice actor for the anime’s protagonist named.
As you might expect if you are a fan of the manga, the visual features newbie teacher Abe Haruaki running hell for leather out of his classroom as his youkai students follow along behind.
The A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School manga
The upcoming A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School anime series is based on the long-running manga written and illustrated by Mai Tanaka.
The manga began publication back in 2014 via the Square Enix Monthly G Fantasy magazine, and with 16 compiled tankōbon volumes being released so far.
That manga is being published in English by Yen Press who licensed it in 2017, with 14 volumes currently out and Volume 15 due to hit shelves in September.
They explain the manga’s plot in this manner:
Rookie teacher Haruaki Abe is as cowardly as they come. It’s hard enough for him to handle human students without whimpering-and now he’s going to be teaching at a school full of monsters?!
It’s a classroom of horrors for Haruaki, as his mischievous students use every means at their disposal to prank him! Will this poor teacher be able to get his group of ghouls under control, or is this class destined for failure?
Protagonist Haruaki Abe is being voiced by Ryouta Oosaka (Kyouya Nagi in A Sign of Affection).
His role is explained this week on the anime’s website:
Haruaki is a former reclusive teacher who is not very fond of youkai.
At first, he is a bit of a frightened boy and has no dignity as a teacher, but as he comes into contact with his students, he becomes a much-loved person due to his own kindness.
As for the anime’s staff, Studio Satelight (Helck) is in charge of anime production, with Katsumi Ono (Symphogear andYu-Gi-Oh series) directing, Deko Akao (Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp) in charge of series composition, and Natsuki designing the characters for their first anime production.
Director Katsumi Ono commented about his involvement with the anime on its official website:
I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to direct the TV animation Youkai Gakko no Sensei Hajimetemashita! I am enjoying making this unusual work, which is a gag story with a yokai as its subject.
The characters are unique and I think it is a title that is hard to find anywhere else. Everyone at the production site is also having a lot of fun, so I hope we can deliver this fun to everyone.
I’ve always wanted to do a gag anime, so I’m going to do my best! Please give us your support!
