One of the most underrated anime of this year is Sengoku Youko.
An action adventure anime series based on traditional Japanese mythology, and one that seemed to slip underneath the radar for many fantasy fans.
That anime ended its 13-episode first season on April 4th, with an announcement soon after that a second season — Sengoku Youko: Thousand Demons of Chaos Arc — would be on its way.
After confirmation on the official Sengoku Youko X account earlier today, we now know when — July 17th.
The second season will also complete the full story adaptation with a continuous two-cour broadcast. There is no word yet, though, on how many episodes it will be.
New key visual and Senya, Tsukiko and Nau character videos
Along with that announcement, we also got a new Sengoku Youko: Thousand Demons of Chaos Arc key visual featuring some of the anime’s new characters — with the 1000-demons-carrying Senya up front. (see below)
The voice actors playing the new characters were also named. They are:
- Senya who is voiced by Hiroki Nanami
- Tsukiko voiced by Maaya Uchida
- Nau played by Aki Toyosaki
- Mudo who is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
- Yoshiteru Ashikaga played by Wataru Hatano
- Hanatora who is voiced by Shizuka Ito
Senya, Tsukiko and Nau character videos were also released, along with information about the anime’s OP and ED — STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION’s “KATAWARA” will be its opening theme, and Hiroki Nanami’s “Yoru no Zui” is its ending theme song.
The Senya, Tsukiko and Nau character videos are short, but they do give a nice introduction to each character — Senya, of course, you will remember from the first Sengoku Youko season.
The manga the Sengoku Youko anime is based on is being published in English by TOKYOPOP.
Crunchyroll is currently streaming the first season of Sengoku Youko, which you can watch now in preparation for Season 2.
