A funny new The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant trailer has been released ahead of the anime’s July 9th premiere.
This time it features Mira, the “Evil Lieutenant” himself commenting how he comes from a family of “evil elites”, has progressed through the ranks of those elites, and is now the right-hand man of the evil leader himself.
He then shows off his amazing magic skills.
The new trailer then moves to Mira doing research on his computer in the library, and discovering a new magical girl, Byakuya Mimori, followed by a “Squeeeeee” as he immediately falls in love.
Yep, this one looks hilarious.
Yuuki Ono (Taiga in Kuroko no Basket) voices Evil Lieutenant Mira, while Mai Nakahara (Nagisa in Clannad) is magical girl Byakuya Mimori.
Byakuya had her own trailer release last month.
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant manga
The upcoming comedy fantasy anime series is based on the manga by Cocoa Fujiwara (Inu x Boku SS).
Unfortunately and sadly, the 3-volume/21 chapter manga series (official Japanese site here) is unfinished, as Fujiwara died in March, 2015 at the age of just 31-years-old.
That means The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime will likely be a one-season anime series, and is an adaptation Fujiwara herself, did not live to see.
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime series
My Anime List describes the anime’s plot like this:
The anime tells the story of Mira, who leads an evil organization trying to take over and destroy everything.
Earth is under attack, but a magical girl named Byakuya Mimori stands up to Mira’s group. As they face off, something unexpected happens—Mira falls in love with Mimori.
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime is being directed by Akiyo Ohashi (Umibe no Étranger), with Yuniko Ayana (Given) in charge of series composition and scripts, and Haruko Iizuka (Sugar Apple Fairytale) designing the characters.
MAYUKO, who composed the soundtrack for Ranking of Kings, will create the soundtrack, while Studio Bones (My Hero Academia) is in charge of anime production.
Watch the Evil Lieutenant introduce himself in the new The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant trailer below, and mark your calendars for July.
Gotta say this one gives off strong Mr. Villain’s Day Off vibes, and I’m all in for that.
